Quantitative Interpretation (QI) in seismic data represents a paradigm shift in the field of geophysics, moving from qualitative insights to extracting precise quantitative information about subsurface properties. Traditionally, seismic interpretation primarily involved subjective analyses, focusing on identifying structural features and stratigraphic patterns without delving into precise numerical values. QI, however, aims to provide a more robust understanding by quantifying geological and petrophysical parameters, allowing for a more reliable characterization of the subsurface.

One of the key aspects addressed by Quantitative Interpretation in geophysics is the estimation and characterization of subsurface properties. This can include the determination of physical properties such as rock porosity, permeability, density, elastic properties, Vp/Vs Ratio and fluid saturation.
